Definition of Terms

Heirloom: Treasured heirloom seeds have been grown in this country for generations linking us to our colonial past. Seed has been saved and passed from one family to another for decades, especially in New England where they were first introduced to colonists by Native Americans. These traditional vegetables will sustain your family with healthy, hearty meals year after year.

Open-pollinated: Seeds that have been left by the wayside by seed companies these seeds will produce a plant just like the parent plant which will provide seeds that you can save and grow next year. By planting these varieties you help to preserve our agricultural heritage in all its diversity./font>

Traditional: Classic varieties that were developed more than 50 years ago.

Organic: Growing organically means not using pesticides or man-made products to enhance your produce or get rid of bugs. Instead we utilize nature's own provision of companion planting, ladybugs, and praying mantis'.

Biodynamic: Biointensive giving back to the soil by sowing plants that replenish the soil with nitrogen and other nutrients. This is also called re-greening and sustainable gardening.
